Paychex, Inc., a leading provider of integrated human capital management solutions for  payroll, HR, retirement, and insurance services, recognizes that today’s workforce has become more mobile than perhaps ever before. In a move to meet the demands associated with this mobile evolution, Paychex today announced a shift to a mobile-first design of its HCM suite, Paychex Flex ®, from Human Resource Executive’s 19th annual HR Technology Conference and Exposition at McCormick Place in Chicago, Ill.

Paychex Flex is a full suite that covers the employee life cycle from recruiting and onboarding to retirement, streamlining workforce management through innovative technology and flexible choice of service. By taking a mobile-first approach, Paychex Flex users are now afforded full functionality of all application components, regardless of screen size and device.

“Today’s users aren’t mobile or desktop: They’re both,” said Mike Gioja, Paychex senior vice president of IT, product management and development. “Those users also expect the same consumer-friendly experience no matter what device they’re using at any given time. Rather than relying on targeted applications developed specifically for either desktop or mobile devices, we feel that designing for mobile devices first allows Paychex Flex users to enjoy optimum experience no matter what device they’re using at the time.”

Research indicates the overwhelming majority of employees would prefer to accomplish simple HR tasks such as viewing tax documents, requesting time off, and changing direct deposit information themselves online rather than calling or visiting their HR representative in person – and many of them are accomplishing these tasks using a mobile device. Paychex’s shift to a mobile-first design demonstrates its commitment to putting the needs of its clients and their employees first, allowing them access to accomplish these types of HR tasks when they want, where they want, and on whatever device they want.

“In today’s environment, it’s important to meet our clients and their employees where they prefer to be met – and the growing trend shows that is on a mobile device,” Gioja added. “When a designer takes a desktop-first approach and a mobile solution follows, users often experience a pared-down version of the desktop experience when using their mobile device. Paychex’s mobile-first approach provides the design and technical architecture to enable us to define and build our full set of features across all major screen sizes and devices – be it phone, tablet, or desktop. The result is a completely responsive and consistent user experience across all devices.”

HR Tech attendees can learn more about Paychex Flex’s mobile-first user experience, as well as receive a demonstration, by visiting the Paychex booth (#630).
