State Tax ID Registration

Withholding and State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) Registration

All Taxpay® clients are required to have an active Wisconsin Withholding and Unemployment Insurance (SUI)Tax account numbers to file electronically with Wisconsin Department of Revenue and Department of Workforce Development.

Register a New Business

  1. Visit the One Stop Business Portal.
  2. In the Continue Creating My Business box, click Need a WAMs ID? and create an online account.
  3. Sign into One Stop Business Portal and complete the steps for the registration for both Tax types.
    • Register for a Withholding Tax Account and Unemployment Insurance (UI) Tax account.
  4. Your new Tax IDs may arrive at different times.
    • Withholding Tax ID:
      • Allow up to two days to receive the Withholding Tax ID via email.
      • Account Number format:036-XXXXXXXXXX-XX(15Digits)
    • SUI Tax ID:
      • Available immediately after completing the registration.
      • Account Number format:XXXXXX-000-X(10Digits)
  5. Enter your new account number in your Paychex Flex® account and email your registration confirmation documents to your Paychex Service Professional.
    • Refer to Updating Tax IDs for instructions on how to update the information in the application.

Finding an Existing ID

If you have a Wisconsin Tax IDs but aren’t sure what it is, you should be able to find it on:

  1. One Stop Business Portal account.
  2. Any correspondence from the Wisconsin Department of Revenue and Department of Workforce Development.
  3. Previously filed returns.
