State Tax ID Registration

Withholding Registration

Employers are required to have an active withholding tax account number to file electronically with the Kansas Department of Revenue (KDOR).

Paychex must be authorized as the Third-Party Administrator (TPA) on the account to file quarterly returns and/or wage reports, remit payments, and adjust returns and payments on your behalf.

Register a new business

  1. Visit the DOR Business Registration site and review the information.
  2. Select the Customer Service Center link at the top of the page and create an online account.
  3. Complete the registration.
  4. Allow up to two (2) to three (3) weeks to receive the Withholding Registration Certificate that will include your account number in the following format:
    • 036-XXXXXXXXX-F0X (15 Digits based on the Federal EIN)
  5. Enter your new account numbers in Paychex Flex to ensure your account is updated and email your registration confirmation document to your Paychex Service Professional.
  6. Refer to the Designating Paychex as Your Third-Party Administrator (TPA) section for instructions for assigning Paychex as the TPA for your account to submit quarterly returns and payments on your behalf.

Designating Paychex as Your Third-Party Administrator (TPA)

  1. Complete the Power of Attorney (POA) form.
  2. Email your POA form along with the registration confirmation document to your Paychex Service Professional.

Finding an Existing ID

If you have a Kansas withholding ID, but aren’t sure what it is, you should be able to find it on:

  1. The Withholding registration certificate.
  2. Any correspondence from the Kansas Department of Labor.

State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) Registration

Employers are required to have an active state unemployment insurance (SUI) account number to file electronically with the Kansas Development of Labor (KDOR). This can also be referred to as the Employer Account Number (EAN).

Paychex must be authorized as the Third-Party Administrator (TPA) on the account to file quarterly returns and/or wage reports, remit payments, and adjust returns and payments on your behalf.

Register a new business

  1. Visit the Employer Services page and select Log in or Register.
  2. Under the New Employer Registration section, select Register.
  3. Enter the required information on the Employer Registration screen, select Next, complete the General Information/Employer Signup information to register for an online account, and select Next.
  4. Once logged into the online account, select Apply for a tax account online.
  5. On the next page, select File a KCNS 010 Status Report to register your business for Unemployment Tax.
    • Complete the Power of Attorney (POA) that can be used during the registration process.
  6. Follow the screens to complete the registrations.
  7. The SUI account number can be available immediately after completing the registration if all the information submitted is accurate.
    • SUI Tax Account Number Format: XXXXXX (6 digits)
  8. Enter your new account numbers in Paychex Flex to ensure your account is updated and email your registration confirmation document to your Paychex Service Professional.

Designating Paychex as Your Third-Party Administrator (TPA)

  1. Complete the Power of Attorney (POA) form.
  2. Email your POA form along with the Registration Confirmation Document to your Paychex Service Professional.
